Hip thrust vs. glute bridge
Choose the hip thrust when you want a longer-range movement that is easy to load heavily. Choose the floor bridge for simple setup, beginners, warm-ups, and home sessions.
| Factor | Hip thrust | Glute bridge |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Upper back elevated; bench and load needed | Upper back stays on the floor |
| Loading | Usually easier to load progressively | Bodyweight, band, or a carefully placed load |
| Range | More hip travel | Shorter and often easier to control |
| Best fit | Primary strength or hypertrophy movement | Learning, warm-up, home, or accessory work |
How to decide
Choose the option you can perform consistently with an appropriate range, stable technique, and measurable progression. Exercise selection is only one part of results; total training, recovery, and adherence matter more than finding a supposed winner.
